Paul Klee - Franz Marc. Dialog in Pictures
Franz Marc Museum, Kochel a. See

27 June – 3 October 2010

From when they met in 1911 until the death of Franz Marc in 1916, Paul Klee and Franz Marc had a close friendship. It led to extensive correspondence and profoundly changed the artistic development of both artists. With Franz Marc and Paul Klee it was an encounter between two different temperaments, both in human terms and also artistically. The exhibition shows the illustrated postcards and the pictures the artists exchanged as friends as well as many works associated with Klee’s illustrations of Voltaire’s Candide. Other themes are Christianity and the war as well as the conflict with Robert Delaunay which were important not only for the dialogue between Marc and Klee but also for the entire avantgarde movement of the era. The exhibition is a joint project with the Moritzburg Foundation – art museum of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, Halle (15 October 2010 to 9 January 2011) and the Paul Klee Centre, Berne (28 January 2011 to 1 May 2011).
